Profile:
Dr. Thomas Evans is a postdoctoral research fellow for the Cooperative Institute for Great Lakes Research (CIGLR), advised by Drs. Lars Rudstam and James Watkins of Cornell University, and Dr. Zachary S. Feiner of the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources. Hosted by Cornell University, Dr. Evans is investigating the applications of Size Spectrum Theory in the food webs of the Great Lakes, or how bacteria and plankton surveys can inform our understanding of population dynamics in larger species that feed on these smaller organisms. Dr. Evans joined CIGLR in 2018, having received his Ph.D. from the State University of New York the year prior. Alongside his fellowship, he is also currently a visiting assistant professor with the University of Maryland Department of Biology.
Education:
- Ph.D. in Ecology and Evolutionary Biology, State University of New York College of Environmental Sciences and Forestry (2017)
- M.S. in Ecology, Evolution, and Organismal Biology, Ohio State University (2012)
- B.S. in Biology, Juniata College (2008)
Research Interest/Area of Expertise:
- Size Spectrum Theory in Great Lakes food webs
- Lamprey Feeding Ecology
- Fish Migration Strategies
- Fisheries Management
