Profile:

Yao was a Postdoctoral Research Fellow working with Dustin Goering (NWS NCRFC), Dmitry Beletsky (CIGLR) and Brent Lofgren (NOAA GLERL) to develop decision support tools for agricultural nutrient application timing using the National Water Model framework. The support tools aimed to help agricultural producers maximize nutrient retention on the landscape, while simulating ecological impacts on nutrinet transport from runoff events.

Education:
  • Ph.D., University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, 2016
  • M.S., Technische Universität Hamburg-Harburg, 2008
  • B.S., Huazhong University of Science and Technology, 2006
Research Interest/Area of Expertise:

I am interested in the interactions between human and environmental systems, in particular how science, technology and policy can work together, bringing us to a new level of understanding our relationships with environment.
