Teige O'Brien

Teige recently joined the Cooperative Institute of Great Lakes Research (CIGLR) as a Biogeochemistry Laboratory Analyst working alongside Dr. Casey Godwin, Kelly McCabe, and Connor Gluck on nutrient analyses supporting CIGLR’s Harmful Algal Blooms (HABs) monitoring program. As an undergraduate researcher at the University of Michigan, Teige tested ideas on the spatial and temporal trends of hydrogen peroxide and the dissolved fractions of chromophoric and fluorescent organic material (CDOM/FDOM) in Western Lake Erie. The ultimate goal of this research was to understand the interannual differences between these water quality parameters and their potential influences on HABs. Teige aims to apply his experience in analytical chemistry supporting water quality monitoring programs that work to preserve the Great Lakes.
