Job Opening! Ecological Modeling Data Analyst
–Ecological Modeling Data Analyst– CIGLR is seeking a candidate to work with the ecological and physical modeling teams at the NOAA Great Lakes Environmental Research Lab (GLERL) to develop and improve experimental ecological forecasts linked to the Great Lakes Operational Forecast system hydrodynamic models. 1) –Assistant Research Scientist in the ‘Omics– CIGLR seeks applications for a full-time Assistant Research Scientist with expertise in genomics, proteomics, or metabolomics.
2) –Assistant Research Scientist in Biophysical Modeling– CIGLR seeks applications for a full-time Assistant Research Scientist who is developing predictive models that link biological to physical processes in aquatic ecosystems.

CIGLR Spotlight: Great Lakes Summer Fellows
The next generation of Great Lakes researchers starts here. Every summer, CIGLR supports a cohort of promising upper level undergraduate and graduate students to complete research projects mentored by both University of Michigan faculty and Federal researchers. Our fellows are primarily located at the NOAA Great Lakes Environmental Research Laboratory in Ann Arbor, Michigan and are offered a variety of projects to conduct cutting-edge research on the Great Lakes’ most pressing issues. Jennifer Tompkins, says “Being a Great Lakes Summer Fellow has given me the opportunity to explore and contribute to diverse research aimed at keeping the human and biological communities safe and balanced in the Great Lakes Region I call home.”

2018 Call for New Partners!
CIGLR seeks proposals for new members to join our Regional Consortium, which serves to expand our research expertise and capacity across the Great Lakes. Successful applicants will join the nine research universities, three non-governmental organizations, and three businesses currently partnering with CIGLR in cutting-edge research and a suite of programs that aim to build collaborative partnerships through career development opportunities, visionary science, and impactful outreach.

This year, CIGLR made connections with several communities in the Great Lakes region and reconnected with many familiar faces. CIGLR’s Outreach Specialist, Michele Wensman, says “the more people we can reach and the more we share our common bond about the Great Lakes, whether it be through research or recreation, the greater our success is together throughout the region.
